Department undertakes maintenance work on Malibongwe Drive
The Department is undertaking a re-tarring and resurfacing of the deteriorated section of Malibongwe Drive (R512) in Randburg as part of routine roads maintenance programme. The project is undertaken at a cost of R7 million and is expected to finish at the end of September 2017.
The project involves the process of milling and resurfacing the deteriorated section of the road. The objective is to prolong the design life of the road, support economic and social goals as specified in the Provincial Development Plan. To reduce traffic disturbances, roadworks will be undertaken between 18h00 and 06h00.
Benefits of the project include improving traffic and pedestrian mobility, improve ride quality, reduce risks of vehicles damaged by potholes and alleviate any other road defects.
Malibongwe Drive is a major arterial that runs through residential and industrial areas as well as open veld in north-western parts of Johannesburg. It connects Randburg to Northgate and beyond.
The Department is appeals to motorists to familiarize themselves with planned lane reductions or road closures during off-peak times, plan in advance to avoid delays and consider alternative routes.
Furthermore, the Department is mindful of traffic inconvenience caused to motorists and humbly appeals for patience, courtesy and consideration during this period.
Currently the Department is undertaking a number of road rehabilitation and construction projects in the region that include Cedar Road (D1027) and William Nicol Drive (P79-1) in Fourways; R511 towards the Gauteng/North West border and N14 between Diepsloot and Brakfontein.
